A four-year old battery joint venture between Germany’s Robert Bosch and Korea’s Samsung may be dissolved because the two partners’ business priorities are too diverse, according to the Financial Times Deutschland.

The newspaper said Bosch, the world’s largest automotive supplier, needs the joint venture, SB Limotive, to focus on building complete battery systems for electric vehicle makers, while Samsung, one of the world’s biggest electronics groups, needs to satisfy the demands of end users of its consumer-electronics products.

A spokesman for the joint venture confirmed to the FTD that discussions are going on about the future of the company, but stressed that “no decision has been made” to end the cooperation.

Premium car maker BMW is one of the best-known customers of SB Limotive, depending on the joint venture for the battery systems it plans to use in its electric i3 and i8 models.
