Michael Gorriz is leaving his position as CIO of Daimler to join Standard Chartered Bank in Singapore.
Gorriz, 55, will succeed 55-year-old Jan Verplancke as group CIO at Standard Chartered. Verplancke is retiring.
Gorriz has been in charge of information technology management at Daimler since 2008. In this role he is responsible for strategy, planning and development of all IT systems at the German premium car group. He also is in charge of communication networks and data centers at the company.
Peter Sands, who is departing as CEO of Standard Chartered, praised Gorriz as a leader in digital transformation. “He has the capabilities and experience to drive innovation and change in technology and operations,” he said in a press release.
Standard Chartered is a London-based banking group with a strong focus on emerging markets. Gorriz will report directly to incoming Standard Chartered CEO Bill Winters.
