The show, the world’s biggest, will kick off with two press days September 10 and 11, followed by two trade days September 12 and 13. The exhibition, which will feature displays by more than 300 automakers, suppliers and other auto-industry players, will open to the public on September 14 and will run through the 22nd.
The Frankfurt show, which is organized by Germany’s auto industry association (VDA) is held every other year. In the alternate year, the VDA stages a commercial vehicle exhibition in Hannover.
The 2013 show will be held against a backdrop of prolonged weakness in the European car market. In May, 2013, European car sales dropped to a 20-month low. Despite the weakness in the European home market, global car sales are expected to rise further as demand in China and North America continues to grow.
The last time the Frankfurt IAA passenger car show took place – in 2011 – 928,100 visitors came to the fairgrounds. One in five visitors came from outside germany and a third were trade visitors.
The 2011 IAA featured presentations by 1,012 exhibitors from 32 countries. Automakers unveiled 89 new models.
