The latest UCB 6.0 release of Automotive Grade Linux (AGL), the open connected-car software platform, adds device profiles for telematics and instrument cluster applications.
The AGL UCB (Unified Code Base) has been developed by member companies with a view to sharing a single standardized cross-industry platform for infotainment, telematics and other instrument cluster applications, available to multiple carmakers and mobility service providers. AGL members already implementing the UCB include Mercedes-Benz Vans, for its onboard operating system, and Toyota, for its infotainment system.
This 6.0 release, adding the device profiles, also includes reference applications for functions such as media player, radio tuner, navigation, web browser, wifi, Bluetooth, HVAC control; display integration and multi-screen capability; SmartDeviceLink; a software development kit (SDK); hardware support for a variety of providers, including Qualcomm Technologies, Intel, NXP, Renesas, Texas Instrument and Raspberry Pi; APIs for navigation, voice recognition, Bluetooth, audio, tuner and CAN signalling; near-field communication (NFC) and identity management; over-the-air (OTA) capability; and security frameworks.
Dan Cauchy, executive director of AGL at The Linux Foundation, said in a statement: “The addition of the telematics and instrument cluster profiles opens up new deployment possibilities for AGL. Motorcycles, fleet services, rental car tracking, basic economy cars with good old-fashioned radios – essentially any vehicle without a head unit or infotainment display can now leverage the AGL Unified Code Base as a starting point.”
