For the past two years, the US-based carmaker, which is majorityowned by Italyâ€˜s Fiat, has been deploying 3d manufacturing software to improve and speed up its engine manufacturing processes.
The virtual approach is deemed successful, because it has helpedÂ Chrysler achieve highly ambitious rollout targets for new engines
as well as new car models.
It will also give the brand a better shot at meeting new US federal rules to improve new-car fuel consumption by more than 50 pc to 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025.
“Weâ€˜ll be taking this and replicating it around the world,” said Brian Harlow, head of global powertrain manufacturing engineering at Chrysler. “We havenâ€˜t gone into existing Fiat plants yet, but we’re looking at building similar products in other locations andÂ thatâ€˜s when we’ll use this process.”
