Volkswagen said it will hire more than 1,000 additional IT experts in the next three years, as Europe’s largest car group aims to bolster its expertise in digital technologies.
VW said the specialists, which will be recruited from a range of high-tech industries, will focus on such fields as artificial intelligence, big data, virtual reality, smart production and connectivity. These disciplines are seen as key to meeting the changing requirements of personal mobility.
The IT specialists will work at VW headquarters in Wolfsburg and in IT labs in Berlin and Munich. The labs are focusing on big data, Industry 4.0, the Internet of things, connectivity, mobility services and virtual reality.
“The tasks we face are more varied and interesting than ever before,” VW CIO Martin Hofmann said in a statement. “In the global mobility group Volkswagen, IT means: international cooperation, versatile working in fast, creative teams and the most advanced technology.”
