Project management is no longer a matter of having good software. In the current difficult economic climate, corporate decision makers see that good project management can help improve financial results.

“The top trend in 2011 is the anchoring of project management in the boardroom,”said Michael Streng, CEO of German project management consultants parameta. “

“Companies realize that project management can only be successful when the whole organization, including people, methods and technologies are included,” he added. “That makes project management part of organizational development and thus a matter for the boss.”

Parameta identified five trends in project management for 2011:

  1. Less technology and more high-level organizational focus
  2. More emphasis on leadership
  3. Fewer software features and more efficiency in cooperation
  4. Concentration on the whole project rather than focus on parts
  5. An integrated rather than fragmented approach to projects
