Waymo has logged more than double as many autonomous miles as its nearest rival
According to autonomous vehicle blog The Last License Holder, 28 companies are actively testing cars on public roads in the state of California. In total, they operated 467 vehicles and covered just over 2 million miles in autonomous mode with 143,720 disengagements occurring. According to the site Waymo is way ahead its newest rival GM Cruise and the rest of the pack, with its fleet covering 1.27 million miles last year with 11,154 miles per disengagement. Taken as a group and its obvious that the centre of AV development currently lies squarely with US companies.
