BMW will use the Aras PLM platform as its backbone for test data management, the open-source product lifecycle management specialist said in a press release.

The Aras software "will support planning, scheduling, execution, and documentation of vehicle tests, and test results at various stages of vehicle development," it added.

Aras said its platform will connect existing IT systems at the German premium car group to exchange data. More than 5,500 BMW employees are expected to use the system, Aras said.

Andreas Mueller, Aras senior vice president for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said his company's technology will help bring new models and technologies to market quickly.

The Aras technology will initially be used at BMW to help with integral safety test management, while drive train development and passive safety will follow at a later date.
