Alibaba Cloud is to work with Autonomic on the China introduction of its Transport Mobility Cloud (TMC) platform to support connected vehicles. Autonomic, owned by Ford Smart Mobility, has signed an memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Chinese firm and the two companies intend further collaboration on transport and mobility projects.

Autonomic’s TMC is an open, cloud-based solution to provide standardized data and infrastructure to developers. This enables the quick development of software for connected vehicle communications, and for mobility services, including for management of ride-hailing fleets, routing of self-driving cars, or for consumer journey-planning.

Autonomic is opening an office and building a team in Shanghai. Co-founder and CEO Gavin Sherry said in a statement: “The TMC is positioned to help automakers succeed and meet growing demand for connected vehicles and mobility services in China. Through this partnership with Alibaba Cloud, we will accelerate our vision of creating the largest connected vehicle offering globally, while powering smart cities and vehicle connectivity in China.”

Simon Hu, president of Alibaba Cloud, added: “Alibaba Cloud and Autonomic share the same vision of redefining the future of vehicle connectivity through technology. With our new collaboration, we will be able to empower the transportation ecosystem and ultimately benefit the end users.”
