The new company, a subsidiary of Vingroup, Vietnam’s largest private corporation, is establishing an end-to-end digital strategy as it prepares to bring its Pininfarina-designed cars plus eScooter two-wheelers into production next year – and to develop Vietnam’s industrial and manufacturing sector in general.

The Siemens tools deployed include the Teamcenter portfolio, with product costing; the Tecnomatix digital manufacturing software; and Simatic IT UA for Discrete Manufacturing, covering the manufacturing execution system (MES) layer.  Teamcenter further connects digital twins across design and manufacturing, and is said to increase speed and flexibility in development, optimize manufacturing processes, and to use the insights gained from product and plant operations. Such insights will be actionable and important when VinFast follows up the LUX A2.0 sedan and LUX SA2.0 SUV, engineered in partnership with Magna Steyr and AVL and featuring a BMW-sourced engine, with its first electric car, currently under development in partnership with the consultancy EDAG.

Jason Buxton, VinFast’s chief information officer, said in a statement: “Using the combined power of both product lifecycle management and manufacturing operations management technology is a key part of our digitalization journey. To drive innovation within the automotive industry, it is essential to have the right technology in place.”

VinFast is establishing an all-new factory in Hai Phong, northern Vietnam, and has ambitions to become a leading manufacturer in south-east Asia as well as to export worldwide: it is opening offices in Frankfurt, Germany; Shanghai, China; and Seoul, South Korea. It is also working with Siemens on a separate project to produce an electric bus: the eBus will be built in Vietnam from Siemens-supplied components and VinFast will build electric motors under licence using Siemens technology. Its launch is planned for late 2019.
