Here, which was acquired from Nokia by a consortium of German carmakers last year, appointed Edzard Overbeek to head the operations of the digital mapping group.

Overbeek, 48, is a senior executive at Cisco, where he most recently has been responsible for the technology group's 12 billion-dlr global services organization. Earlier, he worked at several other companies, including Fujitsu and Siemens.

Overbeek starts as Here CEO March 1.

Nokia sold Here to a consortium of Audi, BMW and Daimler last year, but the new owners have made clear that Here maps, which are used in more than 80 pc of all in-car navigation systems, will continue to be available to all customers.

The three automakers said in a joint statement that Overbeek is "well suited to drive the business and technology agenda for Here for the benefit of all of its customers across the many industries it serves."
