NTT Communications is buying 86.7 pc of Germany's e-shelter, propelling the Japanese company into third place among data center service providers in Europe.
NTT Communications, a division of the NTT telecommunications group, said the acquisition of e-shelter lays the groundwork for further growth in Europe. "We look forward to expanding our share of the European Union'sÂ overall ICT market in partnership with this potent company," NTT Com CEO Akira Arima said in a press statement.
The acquisition will also help NTT Com meet growing demand for data center and cloud services in Europe. It cited data from market researchers Gartner that put European data center market growth at 9 pc a year.
e-shelter manages almost 90,000 square meters of data center space in four major German cities as well as in Switzerland and Vienna. The company's biggest facility - 60,000 square meters - is in Frankfurt. .
In Europe, NTT Com operates data centers in the UK, France, Germany and Spain. The companyÂ operates more than 130 data centers worldwide
