Britta Seeger, a 24-year company veteran, will take over as head of Mercedes-Benz Cars sales and marketing on January 1, 2017.

Parent company Daimler said in a statement that the board of management appointment of Seeger marks a rejuvenation of the leadership team and also shows the company has “outstanding” female senior executives in its ranks.

Seeger, 46, joined Daimler in 1992 after graduating from business school. She held a series of sales and marketing positions before becoming CEO of the Turkish truck and bus operations of Mercedes-Benz last year.

“With Britta Seeger, we are appointing an experienced executive who has successfully held leading positions in sales worldwide since 2013,” Daimler Supervisory Board Chairman Manfred Bischoffsaid in a statement.

Seeger succeeds Ola Kaellenius, who will take charge of Daimler Group research and development January 1. He succeeds long-time R&D boss Thomas Weber, who is retiring.

Eight years after joining Daimler, Seeger was appointed head of the group's eRetail department in 2000. In 2002, she became Head of Sales Customer Connect and in 2006 she was appointed head of product management Mercedes-Benz Cars & smart.

In 2008, Seeger became head of Service Operations & Service Sales and in 2010 she took charge of the group’s Sales & Marketing Parts operations. In 2013, she became CEO of Mercedes-Benz Korea Ltd, a position she held until moving to Turkey last year.
