LAS VEGAS - AT&T, capitalizing on its large mobile network, will provide  4G LTE connectivity to Audi's new A3 in the US.

The telecommunications group, which made the announcement at the CES consumer electronics show here, will make the  fast connections available to Audi drivers through a Mobile Share data plan option. That will let existing AT&T customers add their car to their  smartphone or tablet data plans.

Audi said in a joint press release that the move would make the most advanced technology available to owners of compact luxury cars such as the A3. "Offering drivers a 4G LTE connection will provide the fastest in-vehicle connection available and significantly enhance the infotainment experience.” said Scott Keogh, president of Audi of America.

Audi plans to roll out 4G LTE capability across its entire lineup. The new Audi connect 4G LTE service will give users faster and better access to key navigation functions such as Google Earth and Google Street View. LTE will also allow faster downloads into the car and provide better in-vehicle WiFI hotspot service.

CES opens Tuesday.
