The 2014 Las Vegas CES will, as usual, be the first major consumer electronics event of the new year, starting with a press day January 6 and running through January 10, 2014.

The annual gathering, the largest of its kind in North America, will focus heavily on consumer electronics, but several major automakers and suppliers are also expected to be present, as automotive connectivity is increasingly dependent on technologies that are already in wide use in people's lives outside the car.

Last year, a range of automakers showed new connectivity concepts in a separate hall dedicated primarily to automakers, suppliers and aftermarket service providers.

The 2014 CES will feature more than 3,200 exhibitors that will show consumer technology products and services across 15 product categories.

CES also features several keynote speeches by industry leaders. One confirmed speaker is Brian Krzanich, the new CEO of chipmaker Intel. Krzanich was appointed CEO on May 16, 2013.
