Automotive system developer and supplier Eberspaecher has acquired a stake of more than 20 pc in Karlsruhe-based start-up PACE Telematics GmbH, reflecting its aim to expand its business into cloud-based mobility services and connectivity solutions. Eberspaecher is known as a supplier of thermal management, exhaust and electronic systems, but “we are convinced that data-based services form a core element of the mobility of tomorrow,” said managing partner Heinrich Baumann in a statement. “The extensive know-how of the start-up in the Internet of Things opens up new possibilities for our products.”
Eberspaecher, based in Esslingen am Neckar, indicates that it will integrate cloud-based solutions both for networking between its products, and for functions within a vehicle. “We want to improve the user experience for our customers,” Baumann added, giving the example of the control of many in-car functions such as infotainment and air conditioning via a single app.
PACE Telematics has developed a series of apps and algorithms for functions including vehicle performance monitoring, error code and dash warning light analysis, vehicle location, finding the cheapest fuel, fuel price monitoring, journey cost analysis, eco-driving and traffic alerts.
