Bosch is rolling out a a new anti-lock braking system - ESP plus - that canbe combined with more features and is well-suited for smaller and mid-sized vehicles.
The German automotive supplier said the newest version of its Generation 9 ESP allows the integration of many safety and assistance functions into the car. These include adaptive cruise control and stop-and-go technology.
The system is scalable and uses a modular design for both hardware and software. That gives carmakers flexibility to decide which functions they want to include, Bosch said.
Though ESP is widespread in bigger and premium vehicles, penetration rates are lower in smaller cars. Bosch hopes the newly designed ESP plus will change that. "In launching this version, Bosch is supporting the increasing spread of these assistance functions in compact and middle class vehicles," the company said in a press release.
Bosch said the new ESP plus offers improvements that provide better regulation of brake pressure, even when brakes are applied very lightly. The company said this isparticularly important for comfort functions such as adaptive cruise control (ACC).
