The Hanover commercial vehicles fair (IAA) will take place September 23 through October 2. The show, which is held every other year, kicks off with two press days, Sept 23 and 24, before opening to the public Sept. 25.

The fair will highlight the importance of road transportation for the European economy. At a press seminar in June, Wolfgang Bernhard, who heads Daimler's truck division, noted that 90 percent of all goods in Europe are transported by trucks and vans. The European commercial vehicle industry has annual sales of 70 billion euros.

Bernhard also said connectivity and CO2 emission reductions are top agenda items for the global trucking industry.

The global truck market is forecast to grow almost 5 percent a year between 2013 and 2020, according to  ATKearney. The consultants predict the highest worldwide growth rates  in eastern Europe and India.
