VW’s new interactive Web site in China may be a model for similar projects in other markets

Volkswagen has launched an interactive customer platform in China that may serve as a model for similar Web sites in other markets.

The German carmaker said it launched the "People's Car Project" at www.zaoche.cn to start a dialog with Chinese car buyers and find out what they want from the car of the future.

In addition, "we hope to involve people via the internet and inspire them for Volkswagen," said Luca de Meo, VW marketing director.

VW is debuting the site in China because it is the group's single largest market, VW said. "We also see potential for launching the project in other markets as well," de Meo said in a press release.

With 450 million people with Web access, China is seen as a good market to test new online projects. On VW's new site, people can effectively co-develop the car of the future, post ideas and discuss them with others. They can also upload images and films.
