HI CORPORATION has joined the Genivi alliance, adding another HMI specialist to the development group.
The Japanese maker of mobile 3D graphics is joining an expanding group of carmakers and IT solutions providers who - within Genivi - are developing an open-source in-vehicle infotainment reference platform. Such an architecture is seen as important for the integration of consumer electronics in the automotive environment.
HI's flagship product is its 3D rendering engine "MascotCapsule," which has been installed on 600 million devices, the company said. The company said MascotCapsule will be available for electronic devices at home and in the car.
Within Genivi, HI said, it will "help create a rich, easy-to-use, and very safe HMI by incorporating our graphics technology, which has been successfully used in many embedded devices."
Genivi was launched in March, 2009, and has a growing membership of automotive and electronics companies. The association's founding members include BMW, Wind River, Intel, GM, PSA, Delphi, Magneti-Marelli, and Visteon.
