India’s IT sector is back on a solid growth track and plans a major hiring drive, Infosys Technologies CEO S Gopalakrishnan said, according to Indian media reports.
According to a story in India’s Business Standard newspaper, the CEO of the country’s second largest software exporter, said “growth is back” after several years of slowdown.
Most companies are hiring sizeable numbers of new staff, he said, adding that “the top-five companies are estimated to hire 160,000 to 180,000 new employees in the next 12 months.” The industry currently employs about 2 million people, he said.
Gopalakrishnan made his remarks in a keynote address at India’s College of Architecture.
According to the news report, the Infosys CEO also said multinational companies want to expand operations in India, especially creating new back office functions there.
