Companies are planning to step up investment in management execution systems (MES) as production environments get ready for Industry 4.0.

According to a study by technology consultants BearingPoint, 88 pc of companies polled say MES is becoming increasingly important and two-thirds plan investments in the next three years.

These companies said the resulting transparency in production processes is a major investment incentive. They also said integration with ERP software and user-friendliness are positive factors.

"As production processes are digitized, MES is part of the discussion more than ever before," BearingPoint manager Stefan Mueller, the author of the study, said in a press release. "MES is already used in many companies, but there is big potential for expanded use and standardization."
