Metric Parking, expanding its footprint in the US market, will supply 135 car parking ticket machines to the city of Hoboken, New Jersey.

The subsidiary of Germany's Hoeft & Wessel Group, a ticketing, parking and mobile solutions provider, has been making machines for the parking industry for more than 30 years. It has run a pilot project in Hoboken, near New York City, for the past year.

Parking solutions have been growing in importance as major cities struggle to deal with increasing congestion and a dearth of parking spaces.

Metric's Hoboken solution, which uses its Aura model parking kiosks, boosted city revenue and increased the number of parking spots available. This was accomplished by moving from traditional single space meters to pay and display.

The change added more parking spaces per block, while revenue no longer suffered from broken parking meters.

The Aura kiosks are solar powered and equipped with different payment options.

Last year, Metric, whose headquarters are in Swindon, England, completed the installation of more than 1,000 parking kiosks in Philadelphia.

The company has installed more than 60,000 parking machines in more than 45 countries worldwide.
