Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has started deliveries of a large order of its i-MiEV electric vehicles to the Estonian government.
Estonia has ordered 507 i-MiEVs in the Japanese carmaker's single largest order to date for the electric car. The first vehicles were delivered to Estonia last week. All deliveries will be concluded by the end of the year.
Mitsubishi and the Estonian government reached agreement on the order in March.
Estonia, which will use the i-MiEVs in public facilities, hopes their use will popularize electric vehicles nationwide. That will help reduce CO2 emissions in the country.The government also plans to establish a charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.
Mitsubishi plans to start sales of the i-MiEV to the Estonian public in November.
