As a percentage of total sales, Norway’s car buyers are wholeheartedly embracing electric vehicles as this chart form Statista shows. Other European countries remain behind, while China has a huge lead in numbers of electric vehicles sold.
Norway’s embrace of electric vehicles is fuelled by government sponsored incentives and perks. Buyers do not pay import tax and VAT on plug-in cars. The country’s hydropower national grid makes electricity cheaper than petrol and diesel, while road tax is zero.
The Nissan Leaf was the most popular all-electric vehicle in the market, while Norway is currently Tesla’s best overseas market.
