OnStar said Tuesday it was reversing an earlier decision to keep a data connection to customers' vehicles after the OnStar service is canceled.
The GM telematics division had sent e-mails to customers telling them that from Dec. 1 a cancellation of OnStar wouldn't mean the data connection would be severed, unless a customer specifically asked for this.
"We realize that our proposed amendments did not satisfy our subscribers,” OnStar President Linda Marshall said in a press release. “This is why we are leaving the decision in our customers’ hands."
OnStar said a continued data connection would have allowed it to provide former customers with "urgent information about natural disasters and recalls affecting their vehicles."
Marshall said it would also have helped in planning future services.
