Panasonic has acquired the Aupeo content and audio streaming service in a bid to enhance the Japanese consumer electronics group's infotainment offering for the global car industry
"Providing connected services and mobile content delivery that both appeal to consumers and enable product differentiation is critical to the automotive industry," Tom Gebhardt, president of Panasonic Automotive Systems Company of America, said in a press release.
Aupeo, which is based in Germany, was founded in 2008 with the goal of delivering content to internet-connected devices. From the start, the auto industry was a major focus and the Aupeo service is now available in a growing number of cars, including those of the BMW brand.
Aupeo provides a service that lets users decide which streaming music they want to hear and Panasonic's Gebhardt said "there is a considerable need for a connected and personalized media content." He said Aupeo complements Panasonic's automotive offerings and will allow the Japanese company to offer a broader package of services.
