Few German companies have a coordinated strategy to prepare their employees for the digital era, according to a new poll conducted by Bitkom, the country’s high-tech association.

A survey of 305 companies found that only one in five companies with more than 50 employees has a core strategy aimed at expanding the digital competencies of its work force. Three out of four companies offer training without central coordination.

“To hold your own in tomorrow’s competitive environment, digital competency is of crucial importance for all companies,” said Anja Olsok, head of the Bitkom Academy, which specializes in high-tech training. “Digital transformation is a cross-sectional task that companies should take on with a centralized strategy that also applies to training.”
