QNX Software Systems will showcase this week an in-vehicle mobile office integration of Bluetooth-enabled smartphones.

The US-based software maker said in a press release that it will demonstrate the system in a BMW Z4 roadster at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

The new technology is designed to alow safer and more convenient use of smartphones in cars.

QNX said the latest version of BMW’s ConnectedDrive wil give drivers access to email messages from Bluetooth-connected BlackBerry smartphones. The messages appear on the BMW iDrive display when the car is stationary, but drivers can also listen to messages, especially when the car is in motion.

The BMW ConnectedDrive System is based on QNX’s Neutrino  Realtime Operating System (RTOS). It also incorporates a multimedia suite that integrates with smartphones, media players, USB drives, and other mobile devices.

BMW ConnectedDrive is a comprehensive suite of features focused on three key areas: safety, convenience, and infotainment. Many BMW ConnectedDrive features are available on the full range of 2011 BMW models.
