SAP has appointed Bjoern Goerke as its new CIO effective immediately. The German business software group said Goerke will also head its SAP HANA enterprise cloud organization.

In his new role, Goerke will  be responsible for SAP's cross-departmental IT function as well as the global delivery of cloud services. SAP said that, by giving its CIO added responsibility for a key product area, it will be able to leverage its own in-house cloud experiences.

Goerke, who joined SAP in 1995, has held various executive positions within the company, including head of r&d for the SAP NetWeaver platform and SAP HANA. The new CIO, who reports to executive board member Gerhard Oswald, has a master's degree in computer science from Germany's University of Karlsruhe.
