TRW Automotive is the latest customer of a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) e-Procurement solution provided by Germany’s POET.
The US-based automotive supplier will use POET’s electronic purchasing platform in its European operations. A global rollout is planned for a later date.
To facilitate the changeover, TRW’s electronic catalogs were transferred from an SAP MDM system to POET’s e-Procurement platform in September. POET helped transfer data into the new system. The two systems ran in parallel during the changeover period.
Opting for a SaaS solution brings clear cost benefits, because there are no hardware or software expenses, said Steffen Marklein, who heads indirect purchasing at TRW’s airbag operations in Laage near Rostock in Northern Germany. “In addition, we’re eliminating installation and maintenance expenses,” he said in a press statement.
POET was founded in 2009 and employs about 80 people. It has offices in Karlsruhe, Germany, and in Alexandria, Egypt.
TRW, whose products include integrated vehicle control and driver assistance systems, braking systems, engine components and seat belts, had 2009 sales of 11.6 billion dlrs. The company operates in 26 countries and employs more than 60,000 people worldwide.
