TRW's integrated electric park brake and electronic stability control system will launch on European and Asia-Pacific models in 2014.

The US-based automotive supplier said the park brake's control functions will  be performed within the upgraded ESC electro-hydraulic control unit. This will eliminate the need for a separate electronic control unit.

Josef Pickenhahn, vice president enginneering at TRW, said the integration of the two technologies reduces system complexity and weight and makes installation easier. It also offers a potential cost reduction to automakers, he said in a press release.

The integrated system will launch on European and Chinese  car models in the C, D, E and MPV segments first. It will become available on US car models at a later date.
