Valeo and Chinese automaker Beijing Automotive Industry Corporation (BAIC) have developed an electric demo car equipped with a powertrain built by the French supplier.
The two companies presented the vehicle to the Beijing governor this week as an example of the energy-saving potential of electric vehicles.
Valeo, a French automotive supplier that specializes in CO2 reducing technologies, used a synchronous permanent magnet motor with a large operating speed range. Using just one gear, the motor will provide the vehicle with good acceleration at low and medium speeds and a high top speed,.Valeo said
The Valeo system, which includes an electric motor, an inverter, a transmission, a charger, a supervisor and a DC/DC converter, was developed in collaboration with drive-systems specialist Leroy Somer and GKN, a British engineering group.
Valeo and BAIC started to work together on an electric vehicle in early 2010. Their aim was to bring a car to series production in 2011 and the companies said the demo vehicle was the first concrete achievement of their partnership.
