Audi confirmed that former McKinsey consultant Roland Villinger has started work as the brand's chief digital officer and head of strategy.
Villinger took up his new dutiesÂ at the Volkswagen Group premium brand October 1.
The appointment was first reported by theÂ Donaukurier, a Bavarian newspaper published in Ingolstadt, where Audi is headquartered.
Villinger worked for 25 years at McKinsey, where he most recently was senior partner and a member of the consultants' global risk management team.
At Audi, he will be in charge of corporate strategy and manage the company's internal digitization initiatives.
Audi’s move is the latest in a string of automaker appointments of experts in digital transformation.
Volkswagen Group, Audi’s parent, earlier this year appointed Johann Jungwirth CDO and PSA/Peugeot-Citroen, Renault, BMW, Daimler and others have all looked outside the car industry for executives to help them manage digital change.
