BMW has appointed Markus Duesmann as its new head of purchasing effective October 1. Duesmann, 47, will succeed Klaus Draeger, who is retiring.

Duesmann joined BMW in 2007 as head of powertrain. He subsequently headed the carmaker's Driving Dynamics unit and was most recently responsible for all powertrain activities in the company’s development division.

Draeger has been with BMW since 1985, when he started as a trainee with the company. He joined the carmaker's management board in 2006.
