Gracenote said it has agreed to provide Parrot with digital file recognition and speech-enhancing technologies for the Paris-based wireless devices maker’s new ASTEROID connected car stereo system.

The California-based entertainment solutions provider said in a press statement the pact would provide drivers “a safe and easy way to manage and enjoy music on the open road."

Gracenote's software identifies digital songs on connected devices such as iPods using available metadata. It also provides voice recognition capabilities for music search, navigation and playback.

The new Parrot ASTEROID is an aftermarket solution that allows car owners to upgrade their entertainment systems.

Gracenote said its technology is integrated in models of 16 different automakers. More than 18 million car audio units with embedded Gracenote technology have been sold.
