SVOX said its text-to-speech software is preinstalled and embedded in Hyundai’s new ix20 model.
The software, which enables speech output in a variety of in-car devices, handles 10 European languages and will be rolled out across other Hyundai and Kia models in coming years.
In a press statement, Hyundai Motor Europe Marketing Director Mark Hall said SVOX’s speech technology makes drivers feel like they’re receiving feedback from another person when they’re controlling infotainment systems.
Martin Reber, CEO of Swiss-based SVOX, said the software aims to ensure driver safety when operating in-car navigation and media systems.
“Drivers need to be able to use their phones, listen to music, and hear driving directions from their navigation systems, all while keeping their eyes on the road,” Reber said.
SVOX offers an application development framework as well as separate components including Speech Recognition (ASR), Speech Output (TTS) and complete Speech Dialog solutions.
