MAN Truck & Bus has appointed Christian Kaiser CDO of the Volkswagen Group unit. Kaiser will play an important role in the digital transformation of the truck and bus division, the company said.

Kaiser, 39, succeeds Markus Lipinsky, who will concentrate fully on his position as CEO of MAN's digital brand, Rio, which will offer digital services to both VW Group vehicles and those of competitor brands.

MAN Truck & Bus, in line with other VW divisions, has embarked on a digitization course aimed at broadening its remit from a vehicle manufacturer to a supplier of intelligent transportation solutions. Kaiser is expected to steer the company's digital transformation.

"In order to leverage the opportunities presented by digital transformation and to bring about positive change throughout the company, we will also adapt our structures and processes," MAN Truck & Bus CEO Joachim Drees said in a  statement. "Grouping our digital activities into a function explicitly created for this purpose will play a decisive role in accelerating MAN Truck & Bus’s transformation."

Drees also heads the MAN group, the direct parent company of the truck and bus unit.

Kaiser joined MAN Truck & Bus in December 2016. He has worked in the auto industry since 1997 and, from 2004 onward,  held various IT management positions at premium car group Daimler.
