The gathering, which is spread out over 96,000 square meters of exhibition space at the Paris Expo, alternates with the Frankfurt auto show as the biggest automotive event in the European market. It is traditionally dominated by the French car brands, Renault, Peugeot and Citroen, but all the world's major carmakers are present.
The 2012 Paris show drew more than 1.2 million visitors. There were more than 100 world premieres at the show.
This year's exhibition takes place against a backdrop of recovering European auto sales and a buoyant market in the US and Asia.
