Volkswagen is looking for partners to build an offshore windpark, according to a report in Germany's Financial Times Deutschland.
The project would be part of a 1 billion euro investment the German carmaker wants to make in sustainable energy. VW wants to find a partner for sustainable energy generation by the end of the year and is talking to four companies, according to the newspaper.
The FTD noted that the VW Group's Audi unit already expressed an interest in regenerative industries in May.
That reflects VW's - and other carmakers' - concerns that, without sustainable generation of electricity, electric vehicles' overall CO2 emissions will only be slightly lower than those of conventionally powered cars.
VW also needs green electricity to meet its own CO2 targets, which calls for a 40 pc reduction in car-production-related emissions by 2020.
The company is exploring investments in wind, water and solar electricity generation, according to the FTD.
