The 2011 North American International Auto Show will take place in Detroit Jan 10 through Jan 23.

After two difficult years in the auto industry, the 2011 show will be held against a backdrop of recovery and a new sense of optimism, both in the US and worldwide.

US carmakers are expected to showcase the new models they hope will reposition them for growth. All car companies' displays will include new fully electric or hybrid vehicles that are planned for release in coming years.

In 2010,the Detroit show featured 37 debuts. The event was attended by more than 714,000 visitors.

In 2011, press days are scheduled for Jan 10-11; the industry preview is on Jan 12-13; there will be a charity preview on the 14th; and the public days run from Jan 15 through Jan 23.
