Siemens PLM has launched a new internet portal where users of its Solid Edge software can review millions of parts and components in 3D CAD models.
The German maker of product-lifecycle-management software said the portal allows users to configure parts virtually in real time and then include them in a product.
The portal was built with Cadenas, a German maker of parts management and electronic product-catalog software.
"With today’s announcement, our Solid Edge customers now have access to millions of commercial, purchasable components they can drop right into their product designs without the need for additional modeling or the time consuming effort of understanding supplier product configurations or looking up part numbers,” said John Fox, a senior Siemens PLM software executive.
He said the software gives users the assurance that supplier parts can indeed be ordered, are available and are certified by their manufacturers. "The result is a reduction of potential production delays," Fox said in a press release.
The new Solid Edge supplier parts web portal is online now and can be accessed at http://solidedge.partcommunity.com .
Solid Edge software provides a hybrid 2D/3D CAD system for precision-modeling of parts and components. Siemens PLM Software, which is part of Siemens' Industry Automation Division, has sold 6.7 million individual licenses worldwide and has nearly 70,000 customers.
