Volkswagen Group has appointed Guenther Nast head of IT security.
The 47 year old informatics graduate took up his new position with the carmaker June 29. He joins VW from Deutsche Telekom, where he served most recently as senior vice president for data and IT security.
VW's human resources chief, Horst Neumann, stressed the importance of the IT operations for the success of the group.
"Demands on group IT are increasing as the group continues to grow, he said. "It is the nerve center of our company and a prerequisite for efficient, competitive and customer-oriented business."
CIOs consider data security one of the major challenges in today's corporate IT environment. The need to keep information secure has become especially urgent as more data are moved to the Cloud and employees increasingly access information from mobile devices.
Nast reports to VW Group CIO Martin Hofmann.
